Holiday Gift Tags for Heifer International
We received a lovely catalog from Heifer International a few days ago, and my almost-six-year-old was quite taken with it. She enjoyed looking at the pictures, talking about what a flock of chicks or a llama are good for, but once she really understood the value of livestock to a child just like her she became obsessed.
Specifically, there was a story of a girl from Uganda whose family received a cow from Heifer International and with the proceeds from milk sales and the sale of a calf was able to go to school and her family could build a more livable home. Things that our children take as basic necesities became vastly more meaningful to her and she has since been bound and determined to contribute to Heifer's mission. As a family we donate to specific organizations each year, but this is her cause and it has been important to her (and me) that she make the contribution. Early ideas for fundraising didn't pan out (lemonade doesn't sell well in the snow!), but she hit upon a lovely idea that I'm pleased to be able to share with you.
She drew up ten winter-y holiday images (a snowman, angel, gift, holly, etc) and, with a little cutting help, made up these fun gift tags. Some fold over, others are flat, and some feature an interesting holiday collage, and come in an assortment of sizes. She would like to provide a Basket of Hope which gives the gift of bunnies and chicks. The Heifer Hope Basket, with its chickens and rabbits, offers just that to Heifer's project partners. From Heifer International:
Update: We collected a bit over $80, enough to donate a Basket of Hope and Honeybees. This was such fun, and such a valuable experience for a five year old I know and love. Thank you so much!

What can be more hopeful to a struggling farmer than a gift of fast-multiplying livestock? Rabbits are easy to care for and reproduce quickly, allowing their owners to sell the offspring for extra income once they've fulfilled Heifer's "Passing on the Gift" promise; and chickens lay eggs and provide manure for vegetable gardens. That's why this gift of Hope goes on and on, lasting much longer and helping more families than the usual gift basket filled with pastries or presents ever could.

Fancy Tiger Needle Felting Ornament Kit Giveaway
Jeannie B. is our winner with entry number 144!
This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!
I've wanted to try needle felting, but I've been nervous to come up with a project myself. A few weeks ago I hit my favorite Denver-local crafting shop the Fancy Tiger and was just weak in the knees over their cute little needle-felting kits.
They were cheap and simple, and I've been eager to work on my little owl and owlet and add him to the Christmas tree ASAP. While you may not be able to soak in all the lusciousness that is the Fancy Tiger if you're not from around these parts, you can, in fact, pick up a needle-felting kit of your very own at the Fancy Tiger's Etsy shop, and one of you will be getting your very own, of course!
So which is your favorite? Visit the Fancy Tiger and leave a comment at the giveaway entry form with your favorite kit and the favorite ornament from your tree. (I'm going to keep this one a bit short so there's actually time to make an ornament before the holidays pounce, so entries will be accepted until Monday at 8am Pacific time)

This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!
My children love to dress up. More than once I've accompanied a princess and a dinosaur on a shopping excursion or had to tell a hopeful little girl that she'd be changing out of the ballet outfit before school. I'm thinking that one of these sweet shirts would be appreciated by most any little girl in those moments of dress up need. Meet Tu for Tee!
These high-quality shirts are hand-embellished with a whimsical applique and a wee tutu for optimal twirling. Tu for Tee has set a shirt aside for one Kiddio reader. Which would best suit the little girl in your life? Head over to Tu for Tee and select one item from their shop, and leave a comment at the giveaway entry form with your favorite design. (Entries will be accepted until Wednesday, December 17 at 8 am Pacific Time).

Retro Family Works Giveaway
Brenda is our winner with entry number 44.
This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!
I don't like bibs. Good ones are stiff and uncomfortable, bad one have itchy velcro to chafe the back of someone's little neck. Moreover, older kids (like my three year old son) have an unfortunate tendency to spill on themselves with impunity, but are too big for a bib, darn it. Enter the smock. I have a number of them that I've made (with my novice sewing skills, sorry children) and they really fit the bill. I was so excited to find Retro Family Works and their cute, vintage-styled 'toddler toppers.'
It's a smock, a pinafore, a protection against the inadvertent spill, but cute and stylish for kids too old for bibs. Maybe they're too cute for mealtime protection but they're a toddler must-have in my book.

I love to be creative and come up with cute little patterns and projects, but sometimes I'm just out of ideas. That's where another of my favorite Etsy shops comes in.
Thankfully, Heather's full of ideas and happy to share, in her shop Heather Knitz! She's stocks patterns for knitting your own bags, as well as kits that include all the ingredients to finish the project, and her wreaths crack me up.
As the mother of a long-haired girl, though, I just love Heather's sweet little hair goodies. You can even get a kit that supplies everything you need (including instructions!) to make your own clips, headbands, and ponytail holders and supplies to complete your own ideas.
Heather's ready to send one Kiddio reader something special from her shop! What would you choose? Head over to Heather Knitz and select one item from her shop, and leave a comment at the giveaway entry form ...but be picky, since what you decide is what you'll get if you win! Cat in the Hat - I Can Do That! Game Giveaway
Danielle is our winner with entry number 124!
This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!
I confess to being a bit of a nerd--I love books, I love games, and I do my best to pass this affection on to my future-nerd children. Unfortunately, while all of our kids appreciate books, our three-year-old really hasn't been interested in sitting around to play a whole round of anything...except for the award-winning Cat in the Hat - I Can Do That!
game.
It's been great for working on basic skills with him, and the physicality of the game has been so helpful during the cold weather that's been keeping us inside. While the Cat on the box drew his attention in, the fun of game play has had him asking to play over and over. The premise is simple: each player draws three cards, each of which dictates part of a silly task the player must complete. For example, card 1 could read "Take four giant steps," card 2 "with the fish," and card 3 "under your chin!" As a bonus, the two older kids enjoy playing together and the pieces are not so small as to be a problem for our one year old. All around, a fun game and great for days that keep energetic children cooped up!

Everything But the Tea ... Party Giveaway
Molly S. is our winner with entry number 320!
This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!
Tea parties are quite an occasion in our house, the table must be set with our finest dishes, dainty cookies must be served and, of course, we must dress the part. Today's giveaway features everything you need for a special teatime with your favorite little person. First, a dress, but not just any dress.
last Christmas after shopping for a set of durable play dishes that were actually cute and appealing. It was tough shopping, but this is the ultimate tea set. Made from recycled milk jugs, the plastic is reliably safe, BPA- and phthalate-free, and won't crack when stepped on or used as a makeshift hockey puck (I'm just sayin'....). Check out their cookware and dining set
and indoor gardening kit, too!
Finally, the treats. We have a ton of Melissa and Doug food sets, and the cutting fruit is a favorite, but what is a tea party without cookies? Melissa and Doug has provided a set of their new 'Slice and Bake Cookies
' for your tea party. Slice the dough, bake those cookies up, then frost and, um, "eat." Just what you need to do a tea party up right!
To enter for your chance to win this entire set (Whole Grain Baby dress, Green Toys' tea set, and Melissa and Doug cookie set)visit the giveaway entry form and tell me what your favorite piece from the Whole Grain Baby shop is and who would be coming to your tea party. Today's giveaway features everything you need for a special teatime with your favorite little person. First, a dress, but not just any dress.
The Square Neck Dress in the "social climber" colorway will make for a particularly stunning teatime. The square neck speaks of sophistication while the pattern will meet with the approval of even the most selective preschooler. The dress is hand-stitched by Varenia of Whole Grain Baby and comes in your choice of size up to 5T. Varenia, also the mom of four under five, created Whole Grain Baby after having trouble finding cute, modern clothes for her kids and has kindly offered one of these beautiful frocks for our giveaway.

Mason and Matisse Modern Rocker Giveaway!
"I lovelovelove the dinosaur bedding. It is so hard to find good boy things without trucks and stuff!"
This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!
We live in a cute little old fifties ranch and I love finding cute modern furniture to fit with the contemporary style of our house. When I found the kids' shop Mason and Matisse I was so excited to find children's furniture that fit the style of our atomic ranch and is truly functional for children.
Honestly, good looks are one thing, but to find furniture that really works and lovely bedding that holds up to the wear and tear of one (or three) kids is the real point.

What to Wear to the Christmas Party? Layers Dress Giveaway!
"I would pick the Jackie O and would celebrate the season with a kidless night on the town with my hubs!"
This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!

Christmas is such a fun, festive time with so much love and celebration in the air. As a full time mom, though, my selection of 'cute party dresses' is pretty limited and I feel like I wear the same thing to every Christmas party. I like dresses but have a tough time finding something that fits that hip young mom aesthetic, plus going out to shop is such a chore. I was feeling a bit frustrated until I found Layers. Their clothes are fun and modern, and shopping online after the kids hit the hay is such an easy treat. So to help you check one more thing off your list, Layers is offering a dress of your choice from their collection. Seriously, a 'collection.' What fun!

Cheeky and Swank Messenger Bag Giveaway
Anna from Denver is our winner with entry number 199. Check your email Anna!
"I like everything for me, but I'd totally pick the VW shirt for my husband"
This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!
I'm over thirty (and you probably are too), but I still want to look cute. And not "I-shop-in-the-Juniors'-Section-cute," but "I'm-young-and-hip-cute" which is what you'll find at Cheeky and Swank.
Their fun selection of graphic tees for women and the men who love them really caught my eye, and their designs for kids and home are fresh and modern without being over the top. Really, though, their manifesto says it all.
Cheeky and Swank has kindly offered to send one Kiddio reader a Perched Message Bag. Perfect for stowing all your mommy goods, it'll keep you looking young and hip.
To enter, visit the giveaway entry form and tell me what you'd pick out from Cheeky and Swank as a Christmas treat for yourself (if it's the Perched bag, pick out one more thing!) before 8 am Pacific time on Monday 12/1. To earn an extra entry subscribe (it's free! click the link to learn more!) and email me the secret code at the bottom of this post . For additional extra entries: Twitter a link to this giveaway to your pals and email me your twitter name, Stumble this post (see the 'stumble it' link at the bottom of the post, it's super easy!), and/or post this giveaway on your blog and submit another entry form with your info in the form's 'comment' section. That's four extra chances!

Barefoot Books Giveaway: Great Books for Fun Kids!
AnnieBananie is our winner with entry number 344...wow, lots of entries!
"I like the way you can shop by age. It makes shopping for neices and nephews so easy!"
This giveaway is now closed...thank you all for playing!
Books are one of my favorite gifts to give--and receive. I love visiting the bookshop, browsing around with my cup of tea, and spending a little quiet time finding something that I love for someone special. Doesn't that conjure up a nice image? Add three children to it and it's just a wee bit less pretty. Barefoot Books is the most delightful second option I've found. Their books are unique, beautiful, and well-thought-out, and are so well organized and described that it's a treat to shop their site.
Just in time for the holidays, Joana McKenna, a Stallholder with Barefoot has offered three of their bestselling titles, plus a special bonus item to one lucky commenter. The titles are:
I'll start. I really like the gift sets that they're offering for the holidays. The prices are reasonable and they would make such a lovely, well-thought-out gift without too much work!
As a second bonus, Joana's offered a 10% discount to anyone visiting from Kiddio. Just click that nice little button down there (I'll also add it to the sidebar, over there -->)!
Think you'd love you some new books? To earn an extra entry subscribe (it's free! click the link to learn more!) and email me the secret code at the bottom of this post. ...and don't miss Monday's, Tuesday's, and Thursday's fabulous giveaways!

One Little Native American and His (Her?) Teepee/Lodge
I'm just loving the cute little peg dolls I see popping up on blogs here and there, and I managed to pick up a little bag of them at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago. I stared at them a bit, then last week when Little Flower launched into a discourse on Thanksgiving and what she'd learned at school about Native Americans, inspiration struck.
The lodge (aka teepee, but I guess they're rightly called lodges, just as my childhood song '1 little, 2 little, 3 little Indians' is now '1 little, 2 little, 3 little Native Americans') is constructed of bamboo skewers with the pointy tips cut off (I'm reserving them for a future 'campfire' with felt 'flames'). I tied it with thread then set it in a 'teepee' shape and thoroughly glued the intersecting skewers together. The 'skins' covering the outside are actually a bit of natural muslin. I first cut it into a circle, then cut a wedge out (about 1/3 of the circle) and cut a small circle out of the center. Little Flower decorated it with pictographs she learned about at school, then it was glued and stitched on (see, above the doorflap?).
My little Native person was originally supposed to be a boy (hence the feathers in the hair, I seem to recall that girls don't get feathers), but everyone else decided that she's a girl. What do you think? Either way, I'm sure he/she will make a nice addition to our Thanksgiving table!

This lovely giveaway comes from Beneath the Rowan Tree, purveyors of all manner of clever, handmade playthings for the little ones in your life.
In the spare moments they find between parenting their daughter Rowan and working full-time, Lori and Andy create some truly wonderful playthings that you'll love to see on your toy shelf (or, in the case of their felted wool dryer balls, in your laundry!) Working in wool, silk, and wood, Lori and Andy create natural, comfortable, quality items designed to nurture a child's lovely spirit rather than train them as a dutiful young consumer. Everything they create is in line with their family values about the very nature of childhood.
Beneath the Rowan Tree has generously offered a set of six hand-dyed 'Fairy Silkies,' petite play silks that are a delight for little hands. They make perfect doll blankets, fairy houses, gnome beds, clothing for stuffies, cargo for trucks... whatever your child can dream up. They are great for learning colors and counting as they engage the child's senses of touch and sight as well as their mind.
To enter, stop in at Beneath the Rowan Tree's Etsy shop and leave a comment (before Tuesday, 11/25 at 8 am Pacific time), letting me know which of their products left you feeling the most inspired. Take note, however, as Beneath the Rowan Tree is shipping from Canada, so get your orders placed early!
